The Battle of bemis heights
On October 7, 1777 General John Burgoyne and his troops marched towards the colonial fortifications on Bemis Heights located nine miles south of Saratoga. The colonists had strategically placed their fortifications just off the main road that the British troops had to march through to move on to Albany. When the British forces arrived at Bemis Heights, they tried to push through the American lines, but were assaulted by colonial soldiers who successfully brought the battle to the British. The colonial soldiers successfully broke the British lines, causing the British to retreat to Saratoga. The British suffered 600 casualties, while the colonists only lost 150.
